VCO - voice carry over - technology allows the hard of hearing and deaf to communicate by reading the incoming message on a display and replying by speaking through the handset receiver of the phone. The phone can be one with a display and a handset receiver. The display shows the incoming message typed by a person on the other end of the line using a TTY, or through a relay operator. The receiver is used to reply in one's own voice. The phone may have a full TTY keyboard and display and be used as a phone, a VCO phone, or a TTY.
